I am a classically trained violinist and a committed, passionate teacher with ten years of classroom experience directing and conducting orchestra programs in the Seattle area public schools. My education includes a BM in Music Education and a BA in Mathematics from the University of Washington, and a Masters in Music from Western Washington University. I have enjoyed performing with the Emerald City Ballet Theater, University of Washington Symphony Orchestra, Cascade Symphony Orchestra and the Northwest Symphony Orchestra, and I am currently serving as concertmaster for the Tualatin Valley Symphony. Ensembles under my direction have performed at the National ASTA Festival, placed 3rd at the OMEA State Chamber Competition (2023), placed 2nd at the National Orchestra Festival, and performed in venues such as Benaroya Hall and Lincoln Center. I currently direct the Orchestra program at St. Mary's Academy in downtown Portland and conduct Portland Overture Strings with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony.
I have completed the Every Child Can Suzuki Teacher Training with Dr. Laurie Scott, and I am able to offer aspects of both Suzuki and traditional lessons, tailoring my instruction to the individual. My teaching style is warm, supportive and demanding. I am constantly evolving and reflecting on my teaching practice, and I am a life-long lover and learner of music. In addition to classical music, I love traditional fiddle music, and I have spent time immersed in the Pacific NW old time music and dance scene performing for concerts, dances and festivals across the country. If you are interested in learning to play fiddle tunes, I'd be happy to share some resources with you!
I am a member of the American String Teachers Association, Oregon Music Educators Association and the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and I also hold a Professional Oregon Teaching License with endorsements in Music and Advanced Mathematics.
