I am a highly trained teacher with a lifelong passion for learning and for music. I have over a decade of experience directing and conducting school orchestra programs, in the youth orchestra setting, and private studio lessons. My education includes a BM in Music Education and a BA in Mathematics, and a Masters in Violin Performance. I have enjoyed performing with various ensembles in the Pacific NW, and continue to play in chamber ensembles and orchestras to keep my playing and practice inspired. I direct the Orchestra program at St. Mary's Academy in downtown Portland and conduct Portland Overture Strings with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony.
I have completed the Every Child Can Suzuki Teacher Training with Dr. Laurie Scott, and the Suzuki Violin Unit 1 training with Judy Bossuat-Gallic. I am eager to offer aspects of both Suzuki and traditional lessons, tailoring my instruction to the individual. My teaching style is warm, supportive and demanding. I believe that making music can be a source of deep satisfaction for any person, and my goal as a teacher is to help my students reach their potential as creative and skilled musicians.
In addition to classical music, I love traditional fiddle music, and I have spent time immersed in the Pacific NW old time music and dance scene performing for concerts, dances and festivals across the country. If you are interested in learning to play fiddle tunes, I'd be happy to share some resources with you! Occasionally, when a student is interested, we will learn a fiddle tune by rote as part of our lesson.
I am a member of the American String Teachers Association, Oregon Music Educators Association and the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and I hold a Professional Oregon Teaching License with endorsements in Music and Advanced Mathematics.
